this is a fine watch. in good all round order...running and striking correctly although on the last half quarter only the quarter rings...heavy gold pair cases. all correctly numbered. 50 mm in diameter. in excellent order. numbered 4017 on movement/dust cover and inner case.
cylinder escapement with fusee and chain. fire gilded movement with finely engraved cock and regulator plate..diamond end stone on cock. two polished steel hammers all in fine order. protected by the original dust cover. Stodgens type repeating system which was Quares preferred system on his own watches...reeded balance with squared taper hairspring pin.
original white enamel dial in perfect order...original blued steel beetle and poker hands.
Gold pair cases. inner case finely engraved and pierced. in excellent condition with good hinges and tight bow...numbered next to bowstem.
Outer case finely engraved by Moser (1706-1783) and signed "MOSER FECIT" on back side. minor rubbing on high spots... tight hinges and closes crisply.
the number 4017 on this watch dates it to circa 1758-1760 one of the last to still have John Ellicotts signature.
