a fine quality silver pair cased sun and moon verge pocket watch signed John Lyon on the movement and dial.  fire gilded movement with fusee. worm set-up on the spring barrel. three armed brass balance under a finely pierced and engraved balance coq. Tompion regulator on the hair spring with a silver regulator dial...over-square seven joint hinge on the outer case. both cases are in good order and close nicely. original silver champleve dial with clear signature and what looks to be the original hand (repaired) a blued steel rotating disc with silver inserts for the moon and stars and possibly a gold insert for the sun. a large and fat impressive watch in good running order. both cases with the incuse IW ...most likely John Willoughby.  Brian Loomes who is the author of watchmakers and clockmakers of the world (21st century edition) has also done extensive research and sold a clock from this watch/clock maker. originally from Warrington.... the signature on his clock is similar. john Lyon is listed in his book as being late 17th century in London. 57 mm in diameter...about 140 grams in weight. impressive and would be a graceful addition to any collection. in good all round order with signs of wear and repair.
